Civil Engineer in Detroit, MI

JOB OVERVIEW The civil engineer is responsible for providing both general and specialized engineering services to support EMS Project Management in the planning, analysis, estimating and design of pipelines, compressor stations, measurement stations and facilities associated with the gathering, transmission and distribution of natural gas, hydrocarbon liquids, carbon dioxide and water. KEY FUNCTIONS Prepares estimates for bids and labor forecasts. Prepares engineering design basis and develops scope of work. Coordinates work with other disciplines, project managers, and clients. Prepares civil engineering-related designs and construction specifications. Prepares requisitions for quotations/purchases of buildings and geotechnical investigations. Evaluates bids and recommends vendors. Evaluates and performs cut and fill calculations and provides site drainage designs. Reviews and interprets geotechnical investigation reports. Designs building foundations, equipment pads, and pipe supports. Performs structural analysis. OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILTIES OF THE JOB Prepares design sketches as needed for drafting. Reviews engineering drawings. Reviews bills of material. Performs a wide variety of complex engineering assignments in areas of design, development, analysis, evaluation, testing, preparation of construction bid documents, and project management. Interfaces with clients to identify and meet their expectations. Mentors junior engineers and provides technical leadership. Performs other duties as deemed necessary by supervisor. OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES Must possess computer proficiency in Windows Office, Deltek Vision or similar SQL database. Possesses expertise to effectively serve in both leadership and support roles on project teams. Demonstrated expertise to listen to the voice of the client and translate into engineering design that meets or exceeds expectations. Expertise to demonstrate excellent oral and written skills. Expertise to effectively work in a geographically dispersed organization. Expertise to take initiative and be a self-starter. Expertise to demonstrate management expertise, including attention to detail. Demonstrated knowledge with ACI, AISC, UBC and other pertinent codes. BACKGROUND QUALIFICATIONS P.E. designation preferred. 5 yrs background in civil design. EIT andor PE preferred. Background Guidelines
